JOB TITLE: Accountant

Department: Operations

Reports to: VP of Operations

Effective Date: September 2020 FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for a variety of daily accounting and auditing functions of the credit union and supports the Member Services and Loan Departments as needed; processes Accounts Payable, reconciles bank and general ledger accounts, performs account audits and researches member-related transactions.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Other duties may be assigned as needed.

1. Accounts payable: Maintain vendor records, process and pay invoices and post items paid to the appropriate general ledger account. Prepare year-end vendor tax forms, record fixed assets and prepaid expenses, process employee expense reports and corporate credit card payments.

2. Posting general ledger transactions: Post general ledger entries and adjustments as needed. Research and resolve exceptions.

3. Account reconciliation: Reconcile multiple banking and general ledger accounts on a daily or monthly basis. Balance general ledger accounts to 3rd party processor records.

4. Reporting: Prepare management reports and assist VP of Operations with month-end reporting. Report unclaimed property to the State and personal property to the County.

5. Audits and Compliance: Collect requested audit documents and meet with examiners/auditors as needed. Maintain thorough understanding of Bank Secrecy Act and comply with all regulations.

6. Operations support: Provide analysis or support to front-line and back-office operations functions as needed.

7. Continuous Improvement: Participate in Incentive Ideas program team for efficiencies in business and transactional processes and tools.

Knowledge of:

· Must be customer service oriented; have excellent communication and interpersonal skills

· Microsoft Office suite knowledge, especially Excel

· Work well under pressure

· Work collaboratively with other employees as part of a multifunctional team.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

A combination of the experience, education, and training listed below which provides an equivalent background to perform the work of this position.

Education:

A high school diploma, GED or equivalent business experience. AA degree and completion of college-level accounting courses preferred.

Experience:

Bank or credit union experience preferred.

Work is performed mainly during regular office hours; however, incumbent may be required to attend meetings or events outside regular office hours. Also, hours may include weekend or evening hours.
